Launch of AAV

Greetings to you all,this is a new beginning of our fight against violence.we have launched this page so that members can share ideas on how we can improve AAV and also how we can make a big change in the lives of those who have faced violence,spoken out and those who are suffering silently .its time to say act against violence,we have spoken much about it but what has been done to stop it for good.

AAV Activities

Activities:

Based on the guidelines and the objectives of the organization, AAV has been involved in the following activities to achieve its goals and arrive at its mission.

 Organized training sessions for the local leaders on how to handle the victims of domestic violence and the perpetrators. Trained Local Council leaders to enact bye laws to regulate negative habits in society such as drug abuse, alcohol consumption, bride wealth, chastisement of women and children, including children’s contribution to domestic chores.

 Carried out awareness campaigns to sensitize individuals and groups of individuals on their rights.


AAV supports Functional Adult Literacy (FAL) among women in the community.

 Yet to establish rehabilitation and counseling centers. This is intended to attend to the victims who have been psychologically tortured in order to re-build their self esteem, confidence, competence and capacity to participate in socio-economic activities and live normal healthy lives.
 Promoted and carried out educational programs and functional adult literacy programs to eradicate illiteracy and ignorance levels that hinder the advance of justice/ rights awareness.


 Provided legal aid and advocacy programs where cases need the intervention of the courts to attain justice.
 Yet to be involved in guiding the litigation processes for cases that have to be taken to the court in order to attain justice.
 Developed income generating activities to increase productivity and incomes such as tree planting, arts and crafts, good agricultural methods, local or small business activities for women to enhance/promote their income levels.

AAV Objectives:

The activities of AAV are guided by a set of objectives and basic principles, which are as follows:
• To strengthen individual, collective and institutional capacity in responding to the rights of women and children in all dimensions of life and to enhance the sharing of experiences, resources and information on violence.
• To address the concerns of domestic violence against men.
• To lobby and advocate for issues relevant the well being of women and children in Uganda.
• To research, document and disseminate information on the situation of women and children in Uganda
• To promote and protect the rights of women and children in Uganda.
• To fight the spread of HIV/AIDS which is one of the causes and effects of domestic violence.
• To create a platform for women and children to express their views and opinions.
• To facilitate the provision for of access to justice, legal redress and law enforcement for the protection of the rights of women and children in Uganda.
• To establish a system for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the organization’s activities.
• To carry out awareness campaigns on the rights of women and children, law and violence.
• To provide information on nutrition and proper sanitation in order to promote healthy families.
• To provide counseling for the victims of domestic violence in order to promote harmonious and healthy relationships.
• To promote access to basic quality education and functional adult literacy.
• To disseminate the International Human Rights Conventions ratified by Uganda or adopted by the International community which respond to violence.
• To promote child participation in child related issues and decision-making processes.
• To promote the protection of children from abuse, exploitation and violence.

AAV Description

ACTION AGAINST VIOLENCE (AAV) is a Non-Governmental Organization that was established to provide an independent and collective legal and ethical response to domestic violence in Uganda. AAV’s major guiding principle is strengthening the individual, community and institutional capacity to respond to domestic violence, promoting advocacy and restoration of harmonious relationships and families while encouraging active participation of family members in the development of appropriate approaches to tackle the causes of domestic violence.
