The activities of AAV are guided by a set of objectives and basic principles, which are as follows:
• To strengthen individual, collective and institutional capacity in responding to the rights of women and children in all dimensions of life and to enhance the sharing of experiences, resources and information on violence.
• To address the concerns of domestic violence against men.
• To lobby and advocate for issues relevant the well being of women and children in Uganda.
• To research, document and disseminate information on the situation of women and children in Uganda
• To promote and protect the rights of women and children in Uganda.
• To fight the spread of HIV/AIDS which is one of the causes and effects of domestic violence.
• To create a platform for women and children to express their views and opinions.
• To facilitate the provision for of access to justice, legal redress and law enforcement for the protection of the rights of women and children in Uganda.
• To establish a system for monitoring and evaluating the impact of the organization’s activities.
• To carry out awareness campaigns on the rights of women and children, law and violence.
• To provide information on nutrition and proper sanitation in order to promote healthy families.
• To provide counseling for the victims of domestic violence in order to promote harmonious and healthy relationships.
• To promote access to basic quality education and functional adult literacy.
• To disseminate the International Human Rights Conventions ratified by Uganda or adopted by the International community which respond to violence.
• To promote child participation in child related issues and decision-making processes.
• To promote the protection of children from abuse, exploitation and violence.
